Home to Me

The idea of creating a space that reflects your life, artistry and character is such fun way of expressing yourself. Interior design is one of my most treasured hobbies, and I loved taking my photography in this direction for the shoot located above. Currently, my north seacoast, pineapple-filled apartment is a tribute to my new life in Charleston, SC. This design, I would assume, is collectively less-desirable to other Charleston locals, but my love for my new city and its historic charm is what makes me feel right at home.

When a fellow photographer asks for family portraits and head shots for their business page, it is always an honor.  I used to get so nervous about it, actually!  Then I realized how amazing it is.  They know how to be natural in front of the camera (even if they say they don’t) and they are the most gracious clients because they understand the industry.  So when Katie of Catherine Anne Photography and John of John Apsey Photography called, I was thrilled!  Add to it the cutest dog on the planet, Falkor, and you’ve got yourself a winning combination.  Katie, if you ever need a dog sitter, I’m here.  🙂

I don’t blog every session I photograph, especially when it is not an engagement session or a wedding.  But I could not keep these hidden away any longer.  This amazing couple melts my heart and I am so happy for them.  I met Jennifer and Thomas years ago through Jennifer’s daughter, Holly.  I photographed Holly and her now husband, Doug’s, wedding!  It was the sweetest surprise when Holly contacted me to purchase a session for her mother and Thomas, her father-in-law.  You see, they recently got married themselves (hooray for love!) but they didn’t do an engagement session.  Holly thought it would be sweet to surprise her mother with something that they hold near and dear – photos.  I drove to North Carolina to their beautiful log cabin with the most incredible view and we just strolled around and had a great time. RachelRedPhotographyWolfeFamily-105RachelRedPhotographyWolfeFamily-119RachelRedPhotographyWolfeFamily-123This adorable pup has since passed away.  It was my honor and privilege to take this little one’s images for the whole family to cherish!RachelRedPhotographyWolfeFamily-125RachelRedPhotographyWolfeFamily-129RachelRedPhotographyWolfeFamily-131Jennifer and Thomas did a wardrobe change, and like true southerners, they invited me into their beautiful home to relax for a few minutes while they prepared for the second half of their session.  I smiled from ear to ear when I saw this picture that I took years ago at Holly’s wedding.  Seeing this displayed makes me fall in love with my job all over again.RachelRedPhotographyWolfeFamily-134RachelRedPhotographyWolfeFamily-140RachelRedPhotographyWolfeFamily-142RachelRedPhotographyWolfeFamily-148RachelRedPhotographyWolfeFamily-155RachelRedPhotographyWolfeFamily-158RachelRedPhotographyWolfeFamily-161RachelRedPhotographyWolfeFamily-162

When Chris emailed me a month ago, I knew this session was going to be something special.  He said he was married to the most beautiful woman in the world and wanted to do something extra special for her on their one year anniversary during a romantic getaway to Charleston.  I was photographing a wedding that day, but with that sweet note how could I refuse?  I couldn’t!

This adorable and very much in love couple didn’t have a chance to do an engagement session before their wedding day, so this was the perfect alternative.  On the morning of their anniversary, Chris surprised Misti with breakfast in bed and an itinerary, including a hair appointment and our session.  She was blown away by his thoughtfulness as was everyone she told.

Happy anniversary, Chris and Misti!  Love is a many splendored thing and I wish you all the best in your new life together as husband and wife.
